Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)

Coronary artery disease is the most common type of heart disease. About 13 million people in the U.S. have CAD, and it is the leading cause of death in the U.S. for both men and women. Each year, more than half a million Americans die from CAD.

Program Goals

The goal of the coronary artery disease program is to slow the progression of CAD and reduce the incidence of heart attacks.

Services provided

The CAD program is designed to complement the doctor's prescribed treatment plan. Areas of focus include:

  • Medication management and drug adherence

  • Monitoring of symptoms and early warning signs

  • Ongoing guidance and education about issues such as smoking, high blood pressure, elevated lipid levels, and exercise

The bottom line

Participants are:

  • 34 percent higher than industry standard for adherence to beta blocker therapy

  • 50 percent below national benchmark for emergency room visits
