Humana Named Number-One Payer in Industry for the Second Year in a Row

In a significant ranking released Wednesday, May 26, Humana was named the top payer in the U.S. for the second consecutive year, becoming the first company to earn that distinction, and the first to earn that distinction three times.
Athenahealth PayerView ranks Humana as the fastest-paying health plan with the fewest denials - again!
Humana was named the industry's easiest payer for medical providers in 2009. On May 28, athenahealth, the medical data analysis company that rates the "hassle-factor" for providers, said that Humana was unmatched in its real-time claim judgments across the country.
Humana ranked first for fewest days in accounts receivable - one of the most heavily weighted measures in the index. We also ranked as the top health plan with the fewest denials, as well as improved overall in every category. Humana also was named as one of the top payers in the industry since the PayerView ranking began five years ago.
Data for the 2009 study was compiled from athenahealth's athenaNet® system, which ranks health insurers' performance and medical policy and how complex those systems are. Athenahealth gathers data from nearly every state and its 2009 data represents more than 39 million transactions worth $7 billion from 22,000 providers.
