H1N1 Flu Information

The basics

As you're most likely aware, H1N1 flu cases have now been identified in all U.S. states and around the world. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides frequent "situation updates" on its website. For the latest general information about H1N1 flu in the U.S., go to:

If you are interested in getting an H1N1 flu vaccination, your primary care physician, pharmacist or local health department should be able to tell you where to get the H1N1 vaccine in your area.

Preventing the flu

What can you do to prevent illnesses like the flu?

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick: When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick, too.
  • Stay home when you are sick: If possible, stay home from work, school and errands when you are sick. You will help keep others from catching your illness.
  • Cover your mouth and nose: Use a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.
  • Wash your hands: Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth: Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Practice other good health habits: Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
