BATON ROUGE, LA - Nov 2, 2005 - James (Jamie) E. Schlottman has been named president of Humana Health Benefit Plan of Louisiana, Inc. with responsibility for Humana's commercial health plan operations statewide.
In his new post, Schlottman will oversee all aspects of Humana's commercial health insurance business in Louisiana and Southern Mississippi, including the company's strategic direction, growth and profitability. He will concentrate on promoting Humana's complete portfolio of health benefits products and services, including innovative consumer choice health plans like SmartSuite®, which have proven successful in containing health care cost growth for employers across the country. Humana currently serves more than 195,000 health plan members in Louisiana, putting it among the three largest health benefits providers operating in the state. "I am excited about the opportunity to guide and grow Humana in Louisiana and Southern Mississippi through a rich-history of service excellence and affordable consumer-choice products," Schlottman said. A 13-year veteran in the health care industry in Louisiana and Mississippi, Schlottman previously served as vice president of Commercial Sales responsible for new sales, account management, sales administration and retention of Humana's customers throughout the state of Louisiana and in Southern Mississippi. Humana currently has sales offices in New Orleans, Covington, Baton Rouge, Shreveport and Hattiesburg, MS. "Jamie's many years of progressive responsibility in leadership positions, sales, marketing and operations will be invaluable in continuing Humana's successful expansion in Louisiana and Mississippi," said Craig Drablos, chief executive officer of Humana's Southeast Region. "His experience in the managed care industry and relationships with the local business community will be invaluable to Humana in promoting our benefit products to employers. Under Jamie's leadership, Humana will continue the rollout of its flagship SmartExpress and SmartSuite solutions, which combine traditional and consumer-driven health plans to help employers keep health care costs down and employee satisfaction up." Schlottman previously served as vice president of Group Sales and Marketing for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. Prior to joining Blue Cross, Schlottman was employed for nine years by United Healthcare where he served as vice president of Small Business Group for Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, as director of Sales for Louisiana and Mississippi and as sales manager for Small Business for United Healthcare in New Orleans. He began his career in the health benefits industry with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi in 1992 as a service representative and later as a marketing representative. Schlottman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing/Management from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is a member of the National Association of Health Underwriters, Jefferson Chamber of Commerce and a board member of HAPAC (Health Agents PAC). A native of Hattiesburg, MS, Jamie, his wife and two children currently reside in Mandeville.
