DALLAS, TX - Nov 2, 2006 - Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) has named Celina Burns as vice president of Network Development, with responsibility for developing Humana's network of physicians, hospitals and other health care providers in North Texas.
Burns is responsible for negotiation and administration of all contracts with physicians, hospitals and ancillary providers who are a part of Humana's network available to members enrolled in one of Humana's health insurance products and related services. In North Texas, Humana offers a preferred provider organization to local employers and a range of Medicare Advantage products including a Medicare PPO and prescription drug plan. "Maintaining mutually-beneficial relationships with physicians, hospitals and other health care professionals is an important part of our business," said Ken Malcolmson, president of Humana's Dallas/Fort Worth operations. "With experience, talent and enthusiasm, Celina will lead Humana's commitment to maintain a strong participating provider network that gives employers and individuals with Medicare in North Texas convenient access to hospitals and physicians." A graduate of Texas State University, Burns previously served as regional vice president of National/Regional Accounts for Prudential Financial and as general manager of Aetna U.S. Healthcare's Dallas operations where she was responsible for network development, sales, account management and financial plan management. Additionally, Burns has held significant management roles with Cigna HealthCare Inc. in Irving and with NYLCare Health Plans, Inc. in Dallas. Burns previously served as a board member of the Health Industry Council, as a member of the Dallas Fort Worth Business Group on Health and as an advisory board member of the North Texas Women's Health Alliance.
