Humana launches SilverSneakersĀ® Fitness Program in Hawaii

Program provides free fitness center memberships to local Medicare recipients

HONOLULU, HI - Dec 18, 2006 - Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) is now offering a free exercise program and fitness center memberships to its Medicare-eligible members in Hawaii.

The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is the nation's leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults and is available for Medicare recipients free of charge when they enroll in a Humana Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Part D stand-alone prescription drug plan.

The innovative exercise program includes a free basic health club membership at one of 13 area health centers. Health centers participating in SilverSneakers in Honolulu include Kaimuki - Waialae YMCA, 4835 Kilauea Avenue; Nuuanu YMCA, 1441 Pali Highway; Kalihi YMCA, 1335 Kalihi Street; Central YMCA, 401 Atkinson Drive; and the Oahu Club, 6800 Hawaii Kai Drive.

Other participating health centers include the Mililani YMCA, 95-1190 Hikikaulia Street in Mililani; Windward YMCA, 1200 Kailua Road in Kailua; Waimea Family YMCA Fitness Center, 12998A Kawaihae Road in Kamuela; and the Shapemaker Family Fitness Center, 250 Alamaha Street N3 in Kahului.

Also, Kauai Athletic Club, 4370 Kukui Grove Street in Lihue; Kona Family YMCA, 74-5606 Pawai Place in Kailua-Kona; Waiakea Settlement YMCA, 300 W. Lanikaula Street in Hilo; and the Sports Club Kahana, 4327 Lower Honoapiilani Road in Lahaina.

Humana is teaming with Axia Health Management, a national health management company, to offer the SilverSneakers Fitness Program to its Medicare members in Hawaii. The SilverSneakers program has been offered to Humana Medicare members since late 2005, and more than 104,000 Medicare recipients are currently enrolled nationwide.

Medicare-eligible individuals - those 65 and older or qualified by disability - enrolled in Humana's Medicare Advantage Gold Choice Medicare Private-Fee-for-Service plan can join the SilverSneakers Fitness Program at no charge beyond their monthly insurance premium.  In addition, Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in Humana's new Medicare Part D stand-alone prescription drug plans for 2006 and 2007 are also eligible for the same membership in SilverSneakers.

The free basic fitness center membership includes use of exercise equipment, classes and amenities, such as swimming pools, hot tubs and saunas. The membership also includes a free low-impact aerobic SilverSneakers group exercise class designed specifically for older adults.

"From Humana's perspective as a health insurer in Hawaii, SilverSneakers is a win-win proposition," said Debbie Smith, regional president of Senior Products for Humana's West Region. "The program not only provides our Medicare members with an added benefit and a way to stay fit and active, it also can help reduce medical claims."

"The long-term health benefits of regular exercise for senior adults are compelling," said Mary Swanson, founder of the SilverSneakers program. "In addition to helping seniors stay physically healthy, SilverSneakers also offers a great way for them to socialize, meet new friends and have fun."

In fact, a leading health care actuarial firm found that older adults who exercise less than once a week have 8 percent higher medical costs than those who exercise regularly.
