LEXINGTON, KY - Jan 10, 2007 - Recognizing the need for affordable coverage for small businesses, Humana Inc. and Commerce Lexington Inc. announced today that they will offer a program to small employers (those with 2-99 employees) who are Commerce Lexington members.
The program includes discounted health, dental, and life insurance coverage for small businesses in Central Kentucky and the Bluegrass Region starting immediately. Commerce Lexington members will have access to a wide variety of health-plan options including Humana's popular consumer-choice offerings (consisting of high-deductible health plans with health savings accounts) as well as more traditional preferred provider organization (PPO) plans. Plus, participating members will have access to health information and industry-leading online tools offered by Humana to help them better manage their benefits. "Small businesses are looking for ways to continue offering affordable health benefits to their employees," said Jeff Bringardner, president of Humana's Kentucky commercial operations. "This new program offers small employers more options and choices - at a competitive price - when purchasing health benefits. The program also goes beyond health benefits, providing small businesses with a comprehensive approach to managing their benefits so they are not a drain on the bottom line." "There is no greater benefit to an employee than affordable, comprehensive health care," said Robert L. Quick, president and chief executive officer of Commerce Lexington Inc. "Time and time again our small business owners have expressed interest in being able to offer their employees an affordable health insurance plan that was comparable to the plans offered by large corporations. "Commerce Lexington set out to find a solution that could provide this important service and benefit for our members. We are extremely pleased to partner with Humana, which brings years of experience working with small businesses and a clear understanding of the many challenges that face our business owners. This partnership is important to our business community and to the health of our members." The new program will also include workshops to help small employers make more educated decisions in choosing a health plan that best fits their financial needs and those of their employees. Wellness and health-education programs including a health-risk assessment will also be offered at no charge to Humana members. "At Humana, we believe one of the best ways a business can control its health care costs is for its employees to become savvy health care consumers," said John Kiebler, director of small-business sales for Humana-Central Kentucky. "Humana is an industry leader when it comes to 'consumerism' in health care, and working with employers to help their employees find ways to keep their health costs in check." In Central Kentucky, Humana's product portfolio includes PPOs, consumer-choice offerings including high deductible health plans with health savings accounts, its HumanaOne individual coverage, dental and life products, and numerous Medicare products including Medicare Advantage plans that combine health and drug coverage, and stand-alone prescription-drug plans.
