Should you walk, run, or jog?

walk jog run
Running and jogging are both great for cardiovascular fitness.

However, they can cause stress on your feet, knees, hips, and back.

Walking
Walking - especially brisk walking with both arms moving in tandem - can provide nearly as much cardio benefit as running or jogging, without as much stress to joints.

The key is that over time you begin to work up a sweat. You can monitor your heart rate by checking the pulse of your carotid artery in your neck.

If you're tempted to be a runner, it is strongly advised that you become a walker first. Do not be overly ambitious because you could hurt yourself and then have to give up your exercise simply because you weren't in condition yet.

The choice to start walking is yours.
