Men, reduce your risk of cancer

cancer
Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men.

Stay healthy by making these habits a way of life:
  • Limit your exposure to sun, and use a sunscreen
  • Drink in moderation or not at all
  • Be aware of potential cancer-causing substances at home and in the workplace; take steps to reduce your exposure to these substances
  • Have regular preventive health screenings
  • Don't smoke or use tobacco products
  • Exercise regularly
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Eat healthy - fruits, vegetables, low-fat foods
  • Know your family history
  • See your doctor regularly

Lung cancer
Among the various types of cancers, lung cancer claims more lives than any other form - and 90 percent of it is caused by cigarette smoking. So, if you smoke, you know what that means: Quit.

Prostate cancer
The second leading cause of cancer death in men is prostate cancer. According to the American Cancer society, the risk is highest if you're over age 50, African-American, have a family history of prostate cancer, or are not physically active.

Both prostate cancer and colorectal cancer are associated with a high-fat-diet - all the more reason to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and low-fat foods. Preventive measures for prostate and colorectal cancer are basically the same as those for other forms of cancer.
