How I lost 100 pounds
|
|
by Dr. Sam Benjamin
I reduced my health risks by finally tacking my obesity problem.
There were some barriers and stumbling blocks, but in 10 months I lost 100 pounds. Part of my secret was making exercise a daily routine. I added meditation and a few other CAM approaches as well.
Today I feel great and am a lot healthier.

Many people have asked me how I lost nearly 100 pounds over 10 months.
I did it by:
1. Dropping my calories to 800 to 1200 a day
2. Eating a low-carb diet
3. Fasting one day out every ten
4. Exercising daily
5. Consuming each of these daily:
- Two cloves of garlic
- One to two beers or glasses of wine
- Alpha lipoic acid for energy (A potent and versatile antioxidant. If you have diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson's, or Alzheimer's and decide to take it, discuss it with your doctor first.)
- A multi-vitamin and 50 milligrams of coenzyme Q10
- Five grams of fish oil
- Approximately 75 milligrams of pycnogenols (thought to have antioxidant properties even greater than vitamins C and E to help blood circulation and strengthen blood vessels)
- Green tea
For exercise, I did 30 minutes of aerobic exercise - on a treadmill, walking, jogging or bicycling - and 30 minutes of weights a day. For my mental well-being, I meditated every day and listened to music.
