In September 2009, Humana Pharmacy Solutions opened its own home-delivery specialty pharmacy, RightSourceRx Specialty, for specialty medications. RightSourceRx Specialty provides:
- Distribution and fulfillment of specialty medications
- 24-hour access to pharmacists
- Coordination of care with Humana's care management programs
- Full integration with Humana Clinical Pharmacy Review (HCPR) to handle all prior authorizations for fast approvals and quick access to medications
Personalized service is available 24 hours, seven days a week
RightSourceRx Specialty pharmacy makes it easy for members to get the high-cost, injected, infused, or biotech drugs covered by their pharmacy plan. More important, members get specialized care and access to pharmacists and nurses to answer questions and listen to concerns.
Phased implementation plan
To minimize any inconvenience to your members, we've taken a thoughtful and deliberate approach to moving prescriptions to RightSourceRx Specialty.
To start, we focused on members filling specialty prescriptions at retail pharmacies for these therapies:
- Growth hormone
- Multiple sclerosis
- Hepatitis C
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Oral oncology
Humana notified impacted members of the need to change from their current home-delivery service to either participating retail pharmacies, or Humana can provide home-delivery service via RightSourceRx Specialty. This communication was conducted in phases from June through August.
RightSourceRx Specialty is integrated with Humana Clinical Pharmacy Review to handle prior authorizations for quick approvals, allowing members to start therapy on time. In addition to system integration, Humana's clinical management programs flow seamlessly from adherence management through disease management for patients with rare diseases who take specialty medications. This integration allows for quick and seamless referrals to disease management and other care management programs.
RightSourceRx Specialty offers pharmaceutical care management tailored to the member's needs. Members are provided with information about their specific condition based on the medications prescribed by their doctors. RightSourceRx Specialty nurses and pharmacists offer suggestions to manage medication side effects, help members stay on track with treatment, and pass along relevant educational materials. Members also get reminders to ensure they have the medications they need and they have access to pharmacists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to answer health-related questions.
