Mobile Apps on the Move
Mobile phones are everywhere. According to a recent Pew Internet Project study, 82% of U.S. adults are active cellphone users. These days, however, cellphones do much more than make calls. Some phones are small, handheld computers that run applications (apps for short) that send and receive email, take pictures and more.
According to that same 2010 Pew survey, 24% of adults in the U.S. use mobile phone apps on a regular basis. That means that roughly one in four American adults uses mobile apps.
Always Connected
The Pew research gives us a glimpse into a world where data is flowing at all times. If you're one of the four who runs mobile apps, think about how often you check your email, view documents or carry on business while you're away from the office.
Roger Entner, co-author of the Pew Internet Project's report on the rising apps culture says, "This is a pretty remarkable tech-adoption story, if you consider that there was no apps culture until two years ago."
Entner's report showed the following findings:
- 82% of adults are cell phone users
- 23% of households have no landline
- 72% of adults send or receive text messages
- 38% of adults access the Internet from their phone
- 35% of adults have cell phones with apps, but only 68% actually use them
- Adults who use apps average 18 apps downloaded to their phone
- 11% of adult cell phone users don't know if they have apps on their phone
