About Medicare Advantage Plans
Humana's Medicare Advantage plans combine the benefits of Original Medicare and Medicare supplements in a single plan that Humana underwrites and administers. The plans may include a Part D rider, eliminating the need for freestanding pharmacy benefits.
How Medicare Advantage works
These plans are approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The government simply pays private insurers, like Humana, to administer Medicare Advantage health plans. Members remain in the Medicare program and continue to pay Medicare-applicable premiums – they just receive their Medicare benefits through a private insurance company.
Medicare Advantage (MA) plans aren’t the same as Medicare Supplements – also referred to as Medigap plans. Like MA plans, private health insurance companies sell Medicare supplement plans; however, they aren’t available at the group level. Secondary coverage, also referred to as a supplemental plan, is available to groups.
