Personal Care Account
Humana's Personal Care Account (PCA) is an employer-funded Health Reimbursement Arrangement that helps employees offset a portion of their healthcare expenses.
Humana refers to these accounts as a “PCA” because employees view it as a “personal” account. We have seen that when employees take ownership of their funds, they change the way they choose and use healthcare services. |
Flexibility in plan design
Humana pairs the PCA with a high-deductible plan, though not necessarily one that meets the IRS definition of a "High Deductible Health Plan" (e.g. integrated medical and pharmacy deductible). We offer several PPO plan designs, ranging from 100/70 coinsurance to 80/60.
Employers also have the option to allow carry-over of unused funds at the end of the plan year, as long as the employee chooses a PCA plan again. The employer can determine carry-over limits.
Fund the account throughout the year
Employers don’t have to set aside all the cash up front, so they have greater flexibility in cash flow. Employers simply deposit a percentage of the PCA and then add more as employees use their funds.
Debit card promotes consumerism
Depending on the plan design you choose, your employees may receive a HumanaAccessSM Visa® Debit Card. Employees can spend PCA funds easily with the HumanaAccessSM Visa® Debit Card. When employers offer both a PCA and FSA, employees get a single, integrated card – which promotes increased participation in the FSA.
The PCA encourages your employees to take an active role in healthcare decision-making. Because the PCA is like an employer-funded “expense account,” employees are more likely to budget for expenses – much like they do with other purchases – and take steps to make their money go farther.

The card gives members an easy, convenient way to access spending account funds at health-related provider locations such as doctor's offices and pharmacies. View details about how the HumanaAccess Card works. |
