Fitness and golf: which comes first?
article 1

Golf has been around, so to speak, since the 15th century, when Scotsmen took sticks to pebbles on a course designed by nature. Today the tools are woods, irons, chippers, wedges, putters, and the little ball that Mark Twain blames for spoiling an otherwise lovely walk.

The engine that drives all this equipment is the human body — the player who spirals, swings, bends, walks, stoops, and focuses on the task at hand. People of any age can enjoy golf. The better shape you're in when you take up the game, though, the better your golfing experience will be.

Bottom line:

If you're new to golf or returning to the game, get yourself in shape before you play, and know how to swing the club correctly. Once you're on the course, common sense and a healthy dose of caution will help you make every round both enjoyable and safe.
