Exercise at work

Jerri B, Mt Washington, KY

Our building interior is set up in a circle, and a sign lets you know how many laps make a mile. So, twice a day, I walk a mile. In the mornings, I also take the stairs up to the 12th floor, then back down to the basement, before returning to the first floor. It's a common occurrence to see Humana associates doing the "Waterside Walk". And seeing so many that have trimmed down and gotten healthier is a major incentive to keep it up.

Jessica M., Louisville, KY

I take two 15-minute breaks a day to walk around the block...relieves stress & helps keep the pounds off!

Quindeleira M.,Green Bay WI

When I'm sitting at my desk, I pull my stomach in and out for a certain time frame. I sometimes squeeze the buttocks together back and forth for exercise as well. Both exercises are tightening exercises.

Christina C., Corpus Christi, TX

I try to get up and walk around. If not, I have bands that I use to work my arms. Also, I'll rotate my ankles. I bring my toes pointing to my face and then push my ankle as far back. I feel my calf muscles stretching.

Dianne D Indianapolis, IN

On my lunch hour, I sometimes go to the mall if it is raining, or go to the park if it is nice and I walk and walk and walk. I also have a membership to a local gym and I do weight training sessions through the week on my lunch hour. I do leg lifts while standing at the copy machine and I do squats every now and then along side the copy machine. I do stretching exercises mid-day to keep me going.

Jean O, Norcross, GA

ALWAYS, ALWAYS opt for the stairs not the elevator. I try to use stairs a few extra trips per day (even if I didn't need to go to another floor)

Misti O, Louisville, KY

I use my breaks and lunches to get in brisk walks and take the staircase back up.

Sue M. London, OH

Since my job requires me to walk a lot I wear tennis shoes to work. I stretch my legs, ankles and feet for 5 minutes prior to starting out on my journey!

Katie V Green Bay, WI

squeeze my butt

Jacquie W. Kansas City, MO

I use my lunch time to go to the gym and workout.

Melissa L, Milwaukee, WI

I don't exercise at my desk, but I walk every lunch break. I also take the stairs and not elevator. Easy and good for me.

Jessica C., Miami, FL

Well, I take 30 minutes of my lunch break and go to the gym for cardio. I relieve stress and burn some calories. If I am not able to make it to the gym. I try and stretch at my desk and take a walk for at least 10 minutes just so I get some movement in my day.

Belinda H., Janesville, WI

I try to get up and walk at least every hour. I am really looking for some ideas to improve this.

Judith H. Chicago, IL

I keep 5 lb weights at my desk for arm exercise. When weather permits I take my lunch walks outside for at least 15 minutes a day. I often stretch at my desk and when walking around the office I stretch by reaching for the ceiling. Neck stretches help and I keep a squeeze ball at my desk.

Sarah C., Louisville, KY

I like to take two laps around the block twice a day.

JSC, Louisville, KY

I try to make sure my desk is set up in the ergonomically correct fashion. I try not to have to strain to reach my mouse or to see my monitor. This reduces a lot of tension, headaches and fatigue. My favorite "deskercise" is definitely stretching my neck, similarly to how you have described it in the article. I sometimes get odd stares while doing the stretches, but they definitely make me feel better!

Genevieve O., Oxford, OH

I take the stairs instead of the elevator. And walk to meetings that are in other buildings instead of driving (and having to worry about parking!).

Monica K., Bardstown, KY

I contract and relax muscles repeatedly and I talk a stroll around the building sometimes. I also see people walk around the building in pairs at a brisk pace.

Graeme F. Kansas City, MO

I have been very active as I travel North America and my day has been rushing here and rushing there through airports and such. Since the down turn I work from my home office and I have a Treadmill beside my desk and I start off with a walk for 10 minutes before I start a easy run and sometimes it may just be a very brisk walk but I find that if I don't start off that way my day does just not start right.

Jay F., Louisville, KY

I walk for 20 to 25 minutes at lunch, when the weathers nice. If it rains, I'll walk up ten flights of stairs.

Lynn D., Madison, IN

Lynn D., Madison, IN

Instead of e-mailing or calling co-workers on my intercom, I run up and down the stairs at work and get up and go to their office. I also lift some weights at my desk and take a walk break, weather permitting. I also do not eat at my desk, but go home and play with my dogs. I'm lucky I live so close to work. Sometimes I will shut my door and stretch out my back on the floor.

Linda M., Louisville, KY

I take the stairs to the next floor for restroom break. This helps me to get in my 7000 steps for the day and also help me to strengthen my leg muscles. How many times do you go to the restroom during the day?

Michelle B., Louisville, CO

I have a series of stretches that I do throughout the day. To help remind me (as it is easy to get into whatever project I'm working on and forget to take a stretch break), I use my Outlook task set to remind me every 15 minutes. Then, I simply snooze the reminder for another 15 minutes after I'm done stretching.

Mary M., Florence, KY

I work two 10-hour days, so I sit on an exercise ball at my desk.

Donna H., Lauderhill, Fl

My name is Donna and my work confines me to sitting. Arm and leg lifts are great! Lateral side twists along with forward midsection crunches.
