Humana Introduces Rx Record On-the-Go

Last summer, some Humana members started receiving something that will make managing prescription medications a little easier — the Rx Record On-the-Go.

The Rx Record On-the-Go is a personalized, portable listing of prescription maintenance medications. It is being mailed to Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) and Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MA-PD) members to help them manage their medications and communicate with their doctor or pharmacist. All members enrolled in Humana’s PDP and MA-PD plans are eligible to receive this card with their SmartSummary RxSM statement.

The Rx Record On-the-Go is a single-page, two-sided, full-color insert that members can cut, fold and carry in their purse or wallet. The card lists all maintenance medications that a member has filled since enrolling in Humana’s PDP or MA-PD plans in January, as well as quantity and dosage for each prescription. There is also space for members to write in emergency and doctor/pharmacy contact information, acute medications and drug interactions. A total of 33 medications can be listed on the card.

This card is intended to help members keep better track of their medications and facilitate their interaction with their physicians. Humana PDP and MA-PD members can present the card during doctors’ visits or when filling prescriptions with a pharmacist. With all of the member’s medications listed in one place, Humana hopes to reduce the possibility of adverse drug interactions or duplicate therapy, and even increase drug adherence among its members. The Rx Record On-the-Go could also be important in the case of an emergency, when health care professionals need to act quickly.

The Rx Record On-the-Go was developed as a direct response to member needs. In focus groups conducted with seniors, Humana noticed that few members kept prescription information in a single, convenient place. In fact, many kept the information on scraps of paper tucked into their wallet or purse. With the Rx Record On-the-Go, members now have a pocket-size record of all the prescription drugs they are taking.

In 2006, PDP and MA-PD members should have received their Rx Record On-the-Go cards twice (once in June and once in the fall). Members should have received two copies of the card — one to carry with them, and one for their files or a family member.

Members will receive a new Rx Record On-the-Go any time there is a change in their maintenance drugs or when any acute drugs are filled more than twice during a four-month period. A new Rx Record On-the-Go will also be issued when there is a change in the dosage for one of the listed medications. It’s just one of the ways Humana is working to help its PDP and MA-PD members have up-to-date personal prescription information.
