New Drug List on Humana Web Site

As part of its ongoing effort to help providers get as much information as possible from www.humana.com, Humana unveiled a new Web tool in June 2006. Now, providers have access to a Provider Drug List Search via the provider area on Humana’s Web site.

Previously, Humana members were able to search for specific drugs and copayment information on www.humana.com. Now, the new Web-based drug list allows providers to search for drugs according to therapeutic class, such as cardiology, oncology and other specialties. Physicians who are primarily Medicare providers can view where a drug is located on the Humana Medicare formulary. The search tool allows providers to cross-reference drug placement on Humana’s Rx3, Rx4, RxImpact, High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) and Medicare drug lists.

The Drug List Search also gives information on whether a drug requires any type of prior authorization, dispensing limits or step therapy. Allowing the provider to view this information before prescribing medication can help to streamline the process for the member getting the prescription filled. Providers can also use the online Drug List Search to view possible therapeutic alternatives to drugs.

The goal is to make Humana’s Drug Search available in a convenient, easy-to-search format. Providers no longer have to rely on printed materials that can become outdated quickly. Using the online Drug List Search, providers can obtain up-to-date information on a specific prescription drug covered by Humana’s prescription benefit plans. Additional features allow users to check for quantity, dosage strength, side-effects and other drug-specific information. Humana’s Drug List includes the prescription medications approved for coverage.

To access the new Provider Drug List Search, visit www.humana.com and click on “Providers.” Then, click on “Provider Resource Center,” and choose “Provider Tools” from the list on the left. Then, click on “Prescription Tools and Resources.” For more information, call 1-800-4-HUMANA.
