Synagis® Changes for 2005-2006 RSV Season

CuraScript Pharmacy, a full-service specialty pharmaceutical provider, is now Humana’s preferred distributor for the Synagis® Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) injection. In addition, Humana now requires prior authorization for the administration of Synagis to any Humana-insured patient.

CuraScript will facilitate eligibility and benefits verification for Humana-insured patients and manage the prior authorization review process in keeping with Humana guidelines. As part of the prior authorization process, additional information will be required from the prescribing physician at the time of the initial prescription. Providing complete information will help facilitate timely review and authorization.

Authorization can be obtained by faxing a completed RSV patient enrollment form to CuraScript at (866) 297-0934. Physicians can obtain this form by calling Humana Customer Service at 1-800-4-HUMANA (1-800-448-6262) or by accessing the PDF file on www.humana.com. Physicians can also call CuraScript at (866) 297-0933 to initiate enrollment; associates are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.

Once the request has been authorized, CuraScript will call your office to set up delivery of the drug. To support the most effective use of Synagis, CuraScript also works with physicians, clinical care staff and parents to promote careful adherence to the monthly Synagis injection schedule. CuraScript staff will stay in touch with physicians to assess patients’ changing weight and to coordinate shipment of the drug as needed. They will also contact parents periodically to remind them of follow-up appointments and the injection schedule.

Parents or guardians of Humana-insured patients receiving Synagis can contact Humana Customer Service at 1-800-4-HUMANA (1-800-448-6262) with questions. Physicians who need more information about procedures for obtaining Synagis for Humana-insured patients should contact CuraScript Pharmacy at (866) 297-0933.
