Communicating Effectively
With Our Providers

Dear Physician and Office Staff:

As we mentioned in the last issue of Humana’s YourPractice, Humana has been named the nation’s easiest health plan with which to do business by athenahealth, the nation’s second largest claims clearinghouse, and Physicians Practice®, the country’s highest circulation practice management journal. We strive to hold this title for years to come, so we continue to look for ways to save you time.

As a health benefits company, we have information that we need to share with you about our plans, contact information and other critical matters that you, in turn, share with your patients. We have several vehicles that we use to share this valuable information. One example is this magazine.

We are aware of the vast amount of mail that you receive. In an effort to reduce the amount of paperwork you get from Humana, while still ensuring that you receive critical details, we created Humana’s YourPractice. It allows us to get you the important news and updates that you need all in one publication — one of the few of its kind in the industry — without inundating you.

We are also proud to introduce our latest communication tool, which is a series of instructional slides complemented by audio directions. This tool can be accessed on demand over the Internet, so you can access it anytime.

We piloted this technology in the Kentucky market, and were able to display new identification cards, share important telephone numbers, highlight plan details (behavioral health, radiology, etc.) and provide instructions to providers on how to submit claims.

Because this tool can accommodate interactive elements, we also utilized the pilot presentation to gather feedback from physicians. We received very positive responses for both the method and the message.

This tool has unlimited potential for training, such as demonstrating how to process the HumanaAccesssm Visa® card. We can also use it for informational purposes, such as introducing our new SmartSummarysm and SmartSummarysm Rx benefits statements.

Once we have a catalog of presentations in place, we will share the list with you in future issues of Humana’s YourPractice. In the meantime, you can view two of these presentations — the HumanaAccess card and RadConsult Online — by visiting www.humana.com, clicking on “Provider,” then “Provider Tools,” and finally “Education on Demand.”

We will continue to share updates with you on this exciting new technology, as well as other efforts to tailor our communications efforts directly to your needs.

Sincerely,

Bruce Perkins
