Humana Shows Growth in Senior Products

Over the past several years, Humana has placed great emphasis on the senior market segment. Humana has drawn on extensive research to design benefit plans that are attractive to seniors and has devoted considerable resources to continuous outreach and education to help seniors better understand their Humana plan purchases and maximize their benefits.

These efforts, in addition to Humana’s significant experience in the Medicare HMO market, have proven successful. In one year, Humana’s Medicare Advantage membership increased 102 percent (from 474,300 on June 30, 2005, to 959,800 on June 30, 2006). This growth was also supported by Humana’s expanded participation in various Medicare products and markets. For example, the introduction of stand-alone prescription drug programs was very well received, with membership totaling more than 3.4 million on June 30, 2006.

Humana expects this growth to continue. By the end of 2006, Humana expects Medicare Advantage membership to reach approximately one million, and anticipates a stand-alone prescription drug program membership of approximately 3.5 million.

Humana’s senior membership is not just growing — senior members are also indicating a high level of satisfaction with their plans and are recommending Humana to their friends and family. With prescription drug plans in particular, the majority of enrolled seniors are experiencing immediate out-of-pocket savings compared to past amounts spent on prescription drugs.

Humana’s senior plans include not only a strong balance between price and benefits, but also additional services that add value. For example, most plans include membership in exclusive programs like SilverSneakers®, a physical fitness/exercise program, and Humana Active Outlook, which features the mind/brain fitness program Posit ScienceTM, nutritional classes, senior intimacy seminars and other important learning labs. See article on page 9 for more information on Active Outlook.

This year, Humana is introducing prescription drug plans in new areas, including Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, New Hampshire and Puerto Rico.
