HumanaAccess SM MasterCard® Card
Makes Getting Payments Easier

As of January 2004, Humana subscribers who selected a medical plan with either a Personal Care Account (PCA) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) are able to access those funds with the new HumanaAccessSM MasterCard® Card — an innovative solution that is designed to make life easier for Humana members, network physicians and other health care providers.

With the HumanaAccess Card, members can pay for copayments and other out-of-pocket expenses by swiping the card though any credit card swipe terminal that accepts MasterCard. The funds will be deducted automatically from the subscriber’s appropriate PCA or FSA account, and the cost to the practice is the same as the cost to swipe any other signature debit card. Members can also provide their HumanaAccess Card account number on billing statements or via phone in order to process payments, which can decrease a practice’s need to bill patients on a monthly basis. Practices will receive payment of the member’s cost share with their other MasterCard payments.

The HumanaAccess Card can also be used at the pharmacy, although the card can only be used to pay for prescriptions and cannot be used to pay for over-the-counter medications, health and beauty aids, etc. The amount swiped at the pharmacy must be an exact match to the member’s responsibility as defined by the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) system.

When using the card, the individual handling the transaction must select “credit” when running the card through for payment. No PIN is required for use. The card should only be swiped for payment at the point of sale for copayments. Deductibles and coinsurance should only be paid with the card after Humana has processed the claim and identified the member’s deductible and/or co-insurance responsibility.

  • HumanaAccess Card can be used to pay copayments and other out-of-pocket expenses.
  • HumanaAccess Card can be used to pay co-insurance and deductibles after the claim has been processed by Humana.
  • Practices pay the same cost as any signature debit card and receive payment with their other MasterCard payments.
