Editorial Board Says Magazine is On Target

After close review of two recent issues of Humana’s YourPractice, members of the newly created editorial board who are health care providers in various cities, found the magazine to be useful and informative to practices within the Humana network.

Among the comments from the four board members were “topics are timely and relevant to many people within a practice,” “routing slip on cover is helpful for staff,” “localizing the center spread of the magazine is useful to the various Humana markets” and “the boxes in stories with article highlights and Web addresses are informative.”

Some topics suggested by the board that will be considered for future issues of the magazine included HIPAA, patient flow, malpractice legislation, malpractice insurance, practice success stories and managing overhead costs.

Our current editorial board members are, Pinkal Patel, M.D., in Oviedo, Fla.; Gary Sturn, M.D., in Altamonte Springs, Fla; Suzanne MacEwan, a practice administrator in Jacksonville, Fla.; and Cathy Wershay, a contract coordinator in Milwaukee.

With continued feedback from board members, Humana will strive to provide information that will make it easier for practices to conduct business with the company and direct them to the many tools and resources for physicians and office staff offered on Humana’s Web site at www.humana.com.

Editorial board meetings will be held via conference call once per quarter for about one hour. There are still a couple of board seats available. If you would like to recommend someone to represent your market or volunteer, please contact Stilla McMahon, director of provider communications, at (502) 580-1865 or e-mail her at

If you would like to provide feedback or have suggestions about Humana’s YourPractice magazine, you may request a copy of the readership survey that was published in the summer issue. Contact Stilla McMahon at smcmahon@humana.com to receive your survey.
