Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Program

Humana’s NICU case managers provide telephone-based and onsite case management services for eligible infants admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit.

Program Overview

Case managers in the NICU Program are registered nurses who help families understand the treatment premature babies receive while they are in the hospital and help families prepare to care for the infants at home. Case managers work closely with physicians and hospital staff to coordinate care during the infant's stay in the hospital and after discharge. They also help parents arrange for home health nurses, ventilators, oxygen, apnea monitors and other equipment and services needed to care for the infant at home.

After the infant is discharged from the hospital, nurses call the family to provide additional support.
