Humana - Guidance when you need it most
HumanaBeginnings

HumanaBeginnings® Program

HumanaBeginnings is a prenatal education program that is available to most expectant mothers who are Humana members. The program is provided to members at no additional charge.

Program Overview

HumanaBeginnings is designed to provide guidance to expectant mothers to help them learn how to take care of themselves during their pregnancy. The program includes health education and support regarding the changes members can expect during each phase of pregnancy. HumanaBeginnings also talks to members about what to expect from labor and child birth.

How the program works

After a member or her physician notifies Humana about a pregnancy, Humana contacts the member by telephone to discuss enrollment. If a member chooses to enroll in the program, a health assessment is conducted. If a member chooses to participate then she will be referred to a registered nurse specially trained in the care of pregnant women. The nurse works with the member to provide education and support, to facilitate services, and to refer the member to community resources, if needed.

Program components

  • Pregnancy guidebook and three educational newsletters

  • Enrollment via the Internet
