Clinical Tips for Providers

In the next few months, Humana will send important information to members about their health conditions. For this information to be effective and help lead to better disease control, we encourage our network physicians and other health care providers to discuss the following with their patients:

  • Physicians play a significant role in curbing the flu and other illnesses by encouraging their patients to practice healthy habits. We recommend you discuss flu precautions with your patients and their caregivers, including the benefits of annual flu vaccine and regular hand washing throughout the flu season.
  • For members with multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease, it takes only a moment to emphasize the importance of home safety techniques, yet the benefits to your patient may be invaluable in preventing an accidental fall.
  • For patients who already have diabetes, it is a good time to remind them of the importance of knowing their “ABC” numbers — A1c level, blood pressure and cholesterol level. Your reinforcement of what lab results are and what they mean can go a long way in assisting the member with self management.
