Humana's Medicare Patient Assistance Program

The high cost of prescription drugs may make it challenging for our Medicare members to follow their treatment plans once they have reached their coverage gap for the year. Humana RxSupport connects eligible Humana Medicare prescription drug plan (PDP) and Medicare Advantage – Prescription Drug (MAPD) plan members to patient assistance programs, helping members secure free or discounted prescription drugs as they reach their coverage gap.

What do I need to know about Humana RxSupport program?

• Humana RxSupport helps Medicare members in the coverage gap connect to drug company patient assistance programs (PAPs). Through these programs, the member may qualify to receive discounted medications or medications at no cost.
• There are two types of patient assistance programs (PAPs) offered by pharmaceutical manufacturers: one that provides free medications, and one that has some cost to the member. Humana RxSupport assists with both.
• Humana RxSupport can help with the more than 350 Part D drugs available for PAPs. Please note that the drug list is subject to change at any time.

• Qualifying criteria:
  • Humana PDP or MAPD plan member (individual or group)
  • $1,700 in out-of-pocket expenses (eligible members must be in the coverage gap to qualify for assistance from a PAP)
  • Note: Commercial members are not eligible for the Humana RxSupport program.
  • Participation in the program will not affect members' Medicare premiums, benefit plan or coverage.

How does the Humana RxSupport program work?

• Humana identifies members who are nearing their coverage gap and on a PAP eligible drug.
• Humana will reach out to Medicare members to identify who meets the financial requirements.
• Note: Financial requirements vary per pharmaceutical company. Financial inquiries of members’ income and assets are required.
• Once qualifying members are identified, Humana works with the member to complete assistance applications, obtain required financial documentation, contact the prescriber for prescriptions and signatures and mail the application and supporting attachments to the pharmaceutical companies.
