Cardiac Devices

Cardiac implantable devices (e.g., pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization therapy) and wearable defibrillators (e.g., LifeVest®) are administered by HealthHelp, a nationally recognized benefit management organization. Please note that precertification, preadmission, preauthorization and notification requirements all refer to the same process of preauthorization. However, for Medicare Advantage (MA) Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS) plans, notification is requested, not required.

Preauthorization and notification for cardiac devices

Humana uses HealthHelp for obtaining preauthorization or submitting notification for Humana-covered patients' cardiac devices.

Please note: For administrative-services only (ASO) groups, authorization is not required, but if requested, HealthHelp will manage services.

  • Ochsner commercial and MA HMO members
  • Health Care Partners commercial and MA HMO members
  • Chicago risk and delegated providers
Submitting Preauthorization Requests

Humana requires that cardiac devices ordered for a Humana-covered patient, including MA PFFS notification, be administered through the HealthHelp call center by calling 1-866-825-1550, available 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central time, Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central time, Saturday, or by submitting an online request via HealthHelp’s website at HealthHelp. New enrollees should choose “RadConsult” to register.
