Submitting authorization and referral requests online allows for easier transactions and faster response times:
- Correct errors and complete a successful submission in one session with the help of data validation.
- Use our enhanced search tool to find codes, providers and facilities easily, speeding up the submission process.
- Create your own favorites lists (service types, procedures and diagnosis codes) for faster data entry.
- Use the quick-print feature and place copies of referral and authorization documents in the patient's chart or send them to the "referred to" provider.
Many requests for authorizations and referrals are approved immediately.
To access our authorization and referral tool:
- Log into the secure provider portal from the Humana.com home page.
- Select “Referral & Authorization” submission under the “Quick Access” heading.
- Begin your submission by selecting an authorization type (inpatient or outpatient) and completing the member information pop-up box.
- Use the “Check Benefits” link to see eligibility and benefits information for the selected patient.
