2010 Medicare Drug List Changes

Effective January 1, 2010, certain drugs will no longer be covered or will have new limitations under Humana’s Medicare formularies for the 2010 plan year.

These changes could mean higher costs, new limitations or requirements for Humana members who choose to continue to use the impacted medications. Humana encourages the use of generic and cost-effective brand medications whenever possible.

Below is a chart that shows the most commonly used drugs that will be affected by Humana’s 2010 formulary changes, along with possible alternatives. Please note that drug coverage changes may vary between formularies.

More about Humana's Drug List

The Drug List is a list of prescription drugs developed and maintained by a medical committee comprised of doctors and pharmacists. The type of coverage purchased by your employer may cause variances in drug coverage. Certain drugs may have coverage limitations based on duration or dosage or may require pre-approval.

If members have specific questions about a medication that does not appear on the list, they can call the Customer Service number on the back of their member ID card.

Drugs on the Drug List may be added, changed, or deleted from the list at any time, which could affect the amount the member pays for prescription drugs.

Humana does not determine brand or generic status for the medications on our Drug List. A nationally recognized, contracted healthcare vendor determines whether a drug is classified as a generic or brand-name drug. One of the primary factors for determining the status of a drug is the price. If pricing for a particular drug changes – as determined by using the average wholesale price – the brand or generic status may also change.
