Humana Promotes Best Doctors® to Wisconsin-based Business Health Care Group (BHCG) Members
Humana members who are part of the Wisconsin-based Business Health Care Group (BHCG) – the majority of whom access health care providers through the Humana Preferred Network (HPN) – now have the option of using a service called Best Doctors®. Best Doctors works to improve quality of care by connecting members to nationally recognized expert physicians who provide a comprehensive medical review of the members’ medical issues. Beyond a traditional second opinion, the comprehensive medical review can help members and their treating physicians determine the best clinical path to take.
Best Doctors can be used to find second opinions on a wide range of conditions – from common medical issues to rare disorders.
The process starts when a member places a confidential phone call to Best Doctors. Next, the Best Doctors team – a physician, nurse and medical records specialist – collects all of the member’s medical records and a comprehensive case review begins. After the review is complete, Best Doctors provides an “expert report” to both the member and the member’s health care provider (with the member’s signed consent). The expert report is a clinical treatment plan that includes recommendations on diagnosis and treatments.
Health care providers in the HPN and other designated networks serving BHCG members may soon begin receiving Expert Reports for patients who have taken advantage of this service. The Best Doctors report may give members and their health care providers fresh insights on medical issues, along with encouraging communication about health issues and treatments between health care providers and their BHCG-covered patients.
