Valid NPI Required on All Submitted Claims/Encounters

To satisfy a requirement by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Humana must begin receiving provider claims/encounters data with a valid National Provider Identifier (NPI) as soon as possible and no later than the end of November 2011. Claims/encounters submitted without the NPI will be rejected and returned to the submitting provider.

CMS requires that all Medicare Advantage plans submit full claims/encounters data with a valid NPI beginning Jan. 1, 2012. Any claims/encounters submitted without a valid NPI number will be rejected by CMS.
