The Health Benefits of Yogurt

Are you looking for a cool, creamy treat after a hot summer day? Before reaching for the ice cream in your freezer, check out the dairy aisle at your local grocery store and try some yogurt.

You have lots of choices for yogurt, but you may want to opt for something plain and unsweetened. Adding nuts, seeds or fruits is a low-calorie way to enhance the yogurt’s naturally tangy flavor.

Healthline1 shares the health benefits of yogurt:

Enjoy all the vitamin-rich nutrients

Yogurt is full of calcium, which helps strengthen your teeth and bones. It’s also high in B vitamins, which may protect against heart disease. Rounding out the list — phosphorus, magnesium and potassium — regulate blood pressure, metabolism and bone health.

Maintain (or lose) weight

Because it’s high in protein (especially Greek yogurt), you’ll be able to feel full for an extended period of time.

Bolster your immune system

Check the label to make sure the yogurt you’re buying contains probiotics, which may strengthen your immune system and reduce your inflammation levels.
