What is eVisits/Telemedicine?
Telemedicine uses existing and new technologies to expand access to doctors while ensuring security and reliability for care. Telemedicine is a broad term with multiple types of delivery. One of Humana’s areas of focus for telemedicine delivery is called eVisits. Think of an eVisit like highly secure SkypeTM or FacetimeTM which allow real-time secure video to enable doctor visits for certain, non-emergency care. In the near future, Humana sees this type of visit to become more common, allowing you the comfort and convenience of caring for you or a loved one as easy as connecting to your PC, tablet or smartphone for a video chat.
eVisits services can include, but are not limited to: triaging, diagnosis, acute non-emergent treatment, patient education and doctor (Primary Care Physician) to Specialist consultations. eVisits enable the care for certain conditions like:
- Upper respiratory infections like cold, cough, flu, sore throat, sinus infection
- Allergies and asthma
- Ear and eye problems
- Skin conditions
eVisits availability will vary depending on location and contract. Not available for all markets or plans. Humana does not currently provide a direct to consumer eVisits services at this time. Please consult your doctor to see if eVisits are available through their office.
