Humana's Genetic Guidance Program

From prevention and screening to diagnosis and treatment, genetic testing touches all areas of medicine. Genetic testing helps doctors determine your risk for a disease as well as treatments and drug therapies, which means improved healthcare outcomes.

What is genetic guidance?

Humana's Genetic Guidance Program helps you and your doctor decide if genetic testing is right for you. If it is, certified genetic counselors will provide guidance in choosing which tests(s) can provide the most benefit and which participating lab(s) can perform testing. This results in more-informed healthcare decisions.

Who benefits from genetic guidance? How?

Many people can benefit from genetic guidance. That's because a number of diseases now can be diagnosed - and treated - earlier than ever and with greater accuracy thanks to genetic testing. One problem is that so many testing products come to market so quickly that doctors can have a difficult time keeping pace with the rapid changes. Humana's Genetic Guidance Program keeps up with the ever-changing landscape to help you and your doctor know what's right for you.

Who can receive genetic guidance?

If you have insurance through your employer, you may qualify for Humana's Genetic Guidance Program. In addition, it's also available to most Humana Medicare HMO or PPO plan members.

To find out if you have benefits for the Genetic Guidance Program, you or your doctor can call 1-800-4Humana. Representatives are available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday.
