Offering protection beyond basic health coverage, employee-paid accident coverage provides supplemental on- or off-the-job coverage. Benefits are paid regardless of other coverage, including primary health insurance, that's in force.

How accident coverage works

Some employee-paid accident products can be both a reimbursement and an indemnity policy — expense reimbursements are paid for actual charges or up to the maximum amount stipulated in the plan.

Benefit options may include:

  • Humana Accident pays for actual charges related to an accident in one lump sum, up to the policy maximum. Plus, there are no calendar year maximums, and it complements high deductible health plans
  • Humana Accident Plus offers off-the-job coverage for accidental injuries, hospital care, and accidental death benefits; pays for actual charges up to the policy maximum
