Humana’s electronic referral and authorization tool provides a fast and effective way to submit inpatient and outpatient referrals and authorization requests.

Humana works with vendors to manage the authorization and referral process for select medical services. The links below offer details on how to request authorization and submit notification for various tests and procedures.

Submitting authorization and referral requests online can result in easier transactions and faster response times. Our online system offers you the ability to:

  • Create your own favorites lists (service types, procedures and diagnosis codes) for faster data entry.
  • Use the quick-print feature and place copies of referral and authorization documents in the patient's chart or send them to the "referred to" provider.
  • Check the status of your authorization inquiry and attach records to the authorization.

To access Humana's authorization and referral tool:

  1. Log into the secure provider portal from the Humana.com home page.
  2. Select “Referral & Authorization Submission” under the “Quick Access” heading.
  3. Begin your submission by selecting an authorization type (inpatient or outpatient) and completing the member information pop-up box.
