Online referrals and authorization requests

Submitting referrals and authorization requests online can save time and allow you to easily track the status of your requests.

Inpatient and outpatient requests

Inpatient and outpatient referral and authorization requests may be submitted online via the multipayer Availity Web Portal or the secure web portal. There is no cost to register.

Submitting and managing requests on the Availity Web Portal:

The Availity Web Portal allows health care professionals to submit referrals and authorization requests to Humana and other participating payers.

  1. If you are not registered for the portal, go to to sign up.
  2. On, select the “Web Portal Users Login” and sign in with your user ID and password.
  3. From the “Patient Registration” drop-down menu, select the “Authorizations and Referrals” option.

Submitting and managing requests on

  1. If you are not registered for the secure portal, please consider using the multipayer Availity Web Portal as described above.
  2. Sign in to with your user ID and password.
  3. To begin a new referral or authorization, select the “Referral & Authorization Submission” icon.
  4. To review or update an existing request, select the “Authorization Management” icon.

Pharmacy authorizations

Health care professionals who want to submit a pharmacy authorization request to Humana Clinical Pharmacy review (HCPR) online can use these methods:

  • Cover MyMeds®: This free service allows prescribers to submit and check the status of prior authorization requests electronically for any Humana plan. Visit CoverMyMeds for more information.
  • Availity Web Portal: If you are not registered, go to to sign up. Once logged in, select “Payer Spaces,” then “Humana,” then “Pharmacy Prior Authorization.”
  • Secure web portal: Sign in and select the “Pharmacy Prior Authorization” link at the bottom of the home page.
