Humana supports Louisiana members and health care providers affected by flooding

Humana members and health care providers impacted by the severe weather in Louisiana are allowed the following emergency provisions extending from Aug. 11 to Sept. 10, 2016:

  • Humana health plan members in Louisiana with prescriptions can obtain early refills of their medications without authorization from their physicians or Humana.
  • During a state of emergency, Humana does not require members living in a disaster area to obtain preauthorizations or referrals for services or care. Additionally, during the state of emergency, Humana will allow members to see certain physicians or go to certain hospitals that accept Medicare patients, even if the physician or hospital isn’t in their plan’s network. If a member usually pays more for out-of-network or out-of-area care, Humana will apply the in-network cost-share rate during the state of emergency for covered services. Please note that coverage is still subject to other terms and conditions of the member’s health plan, and that claims may still be reviewed and possibly denied if the service is not deemed a covered benefit.
  • Humana has opened its toll-free Employee Assistance Program (EAP) hotline beyond Humana Louisiana associates and members to include the community. Counselors and work/life specialists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-866-440-6556 to provide free, confidential assistance to anyone needing help and support in coping with the disaster and its aftermath.

Health care providers need to complete and submit Humana’s Provider Crisis Contact/Location Information form if this situation requires evacuation of their area and/or relocation of their provider office(s). This information is needed so that Humana customer service has current information to provide to Humana members who may call for assistance in locating their health care providers during emergency situations.

Note to provider groups: A separate form should be completed for each individual health care provider in the group if the information is not the same for all health care providers in the group.
