Turkey Burger

  • Make the switch:
  • 1 lbs. 93% lean ground turkey
  • 4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split and toasted
  • 1/2-teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4-teaspoon ground pepper
  • 4 slices low fat Cheddar cheese
  • Avocado slices

Get Cookin’ on a Healthier Burger!

  • Step 1:Heat broiler.
  • Step 2:Combine ¾ lb. of lean ground turkey and 12 ounces of chopped mushrooms.
  • Step 3:Divide mixture into 4 rounds and place between two layers of plastic wrap. Roll mixture into ¾-inch-thick patties using a rolling pin.
  • Step 4:Place 4 whole wheat buns (tops and bottoms) on a baking sheet under broiler until toasted.
  • Step 5:Heat a large cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat.
  • Step 6:Season to taste of salt.
  • Step 7: Working in batches, cook burgers 1 to 2 minutes. Flip and top each with low fat Cheddar cheese; cover and cook 1 to 2 minutes more until fully cooked.
  • Step 8: Slice tomatoes and avocadoes and tear lettuce to separate.
  • Step 9: Place burgers on buns and serve with lettuce, mustard, tomato and 3 slices of avocado
