What is the Healthy Options allowance?

The Healthy Options allowance helps eligible Humana Medicare Advantage plan members pay for essential living expenses like eligible groceries, over-the-counter (OTC) products, utilities, rent, pet care and more to help them feel their best. It gives members more freedom and flexibility to spend their allowance.

Healthy Options allowance amounts vary by plan and location. Monthly allowances range from $35–$275 dollars ($420–$3,300 annually).

Who qualifies for the allowance?

Food

Approved produce, beverages, dairy, meat and seafood, deli items, frozen and prepared foods, bakery items and more

Utilities, rent and mortgage

Rent or mortgage payments; home phone and internet service; electric, home heating, water and sewer bills; trash and recycling

Non-medical transportation

Taxis, ridesharing services such as Uber and Lyft and public transportation

Home and personal supplies

Items including toilet paper, paper towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes, cleaning supplies, and air quality items including furnace filters, fans, space heaters and air conditioners

Assistive devices

Grab bars, raised toilet seats, low-vision aids and reaching aids

Over the counter

Allergy, cold and flu medicine, vitamins and supplements, first aid, pain relief, digestive health products and more

How to use the Humana Healthy Options allowance

Healthy Options allowances can be accessed with the Humana Spending Account Card, which you’ll receive in the mail once your eligible plan becomes active. The dollar amount on the card will be updated automatically. To use your card:

  1. As soon as you receive it in the mail, activate it online, over the phone or through the mobile app.
  2. Shop at a participating store or use for payment wherever Visa debit cards are accepted.
  3. Pick out any approved item or service you need.
  4. Swipe or scan your Humana Spending Account Visa® debit card during checkout.
  5. Your card will cover the costs of approved items up to your benefit allowance.
