If your health plan comes with a Humana Healthy Options Allowance^®, your allowance will be stored on your Humana Spending Account Card. Use your card wherever it’s accepted to pay for approved items and services.

Who qualifies for an allowance?

If you have both Medicare and Medicaid, most of our dual-eligible special needs plans (D-SNPs ) include a Healthy Options Allowance .

Most of our Chronic Condition Special Needs Plans (C-SNPs) also include the allowance. C-SNPs  are for members diagnosed with certain health conditions, like end-stage renal disease (ESRD), diabetes, chronic heart failure or chronic lung disease.

There are some other Medicare Advantage plans that also offer an allowance based on specific eligibility requirements. If you’re shopping for a plan—or even if you already have one—take time to read the plan details or Evidence of Coverage to see what’s included.

What can I use it for?

Plan members who qualify can use their allowance to help pay for eligible over-the-counter (OTC) items like vitamins, pain medicine and first aid supplies.

If you’ve been diagnosed with a qualifying chronic condition and meet certain criteria, you may qualify to use your allowance for eligible groceries, utilities, phone service, rent and more.

Your funds carry over each month until the end of the plan year or until plan disenrollment.
