A few good things to know before shopping for a Medicare Part D plan

Here are a few things to consider when choosing the best plan for you.

Avoid the Part D late-enrollment penalty

If you don’t sign up for a Part D plan when first eligible and you don’t have other creditable drug coverage, you’ll likely pay a  Part D late-enrollment penalty to join later. Consider enrolling in a low-premium Part D plan now to avoid the penalty in years to come.

Enjoy the security of an annual maximum out-of-pocket cost

All 2026 Medicare Part D plans feature a $2,100 maximum out-of-pocket cost. Once your out-of-pocket costs reach $2,100, your Part D plan will pay 100% for your covered drugs for the rest of the plan year.

Help for Medicare members who take insulin

Out-of-pocket costs for insulin are capped at $35 for a 30-day supply of Medicare Part B and Part D insulins under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
