Value-based healthcare centers around you

At Humana, member care is always a top priority. That’s why we’re striving to shift from traditional fee-for-service healthcare to value-based healthcare.

Benefits of value-based care

Traditionally, healthcare providers are rewarded for the quantity of patients they serve.

Value-based care rewards healthcare providers on the quality of care given to patients. It creates a partnership between you and your entire healthcare team so you can create personalized plans and goals.

Benefits of value-based care may include:

  • More personal attention from providers
  • Better care coordination between providers
  • Improved health outcomes
  • Lower healthcare costs
  • Happier patients

Humana’s history with value-based care

Two-thirds of Humana’s individual Medicare Advantage (MA) members seek care from primary care physicians who have some form of a value-based care agreement with Humana.1 In 2019, Humana MA members who sought care from physicians in value-based care arrangements had fewer hospital admissions and emergency room (ER) visits than patients in Humana MA non-value-based arrangements.2

In March 2021, Humana and the University of Houston announced the launch of a Value-based Care Specializations online program to support providers, academia, other business and industry professionals and the public. The program teaches the fundamentals and real-world application of value-based care.3

In April 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) chose Humana to participate in its value-based care transition program for traditional Medicare. By early May—a month into the program—Humana has already signed value-based contracts with 420 primary care providers.4
