South Carolina Medicaid: Substance use disorder

We help our members get the care and services they need to address substance use disorder(s).

Substance use disorder

Substance use disorders occur when recurrent use of alcohol and/or drugs causes clinically significant impairment, including:

  • Disability
  • Failure to meet major responsibilities at home, school, or work
  • Health problems

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration,1 substance use disorders:

  • Affect people from all walks of life and all age groups
  • Are common, recurrent, and often serious
  • Often treatable

We work with our members to:

  • Help prevent and secure treatment for substance use disorders
  • Provide support for people seeking or already in recovery

Covered services for Humana Healthy Horizons in South Carolina members

You can access several types of substance use disorder services, including:

  • Substance Use Disorder Services
  • Outpatient opioid treatment
  • Outpatient withdrawal management
  • Non-hospital medical withdrawal management
  • Alcohol and drug abuse treatment center withdrawal management crisis stabilization
  • Peer support services and Targeted case management
