Sometimes, you need help getting around. This is why Humana Healthy Horizons members have coverage for certain types of transportation services.

Emergency Transportation

If you have a medical emergency, dial 911. Virginia Cardinal Care members are covered in case of emergent and urgent medical needs. You will receive an ambulance ride to the nearest emergency room.

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

It is important that you are able to access medical services. Therefore, safe transportation will be provided to and from covered medical, behavioral health, and dental appointments if you are unable to arrange other transportation. Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) services are available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Non-Medical Transportation

As a value-added benefit, Humana Healthy Horizons members are also provided limited non-medical transportation. Members may receive up to 30 round trips (or 60 one-way trips) per year to locations such as:

• Social support groups
• Wellness classes
• WIC and SNAP appointments
• Food banks.

This benefit also offers transportation to locations providing social benefits and community integration for members such as:

• Community and neighborhood centers
• Parks
• Recreation areas
• Churches.

Modivcare is a transportation coordinating company contracted with the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) to manage Fee for Service (FFS) Non-Emergency Medicaid Transportation (NEMT) services.
