A Special Needs plan (SNP) is a type of Medicare Advantage plan that combines all the benefits of Original Medicare (Parts A and B) with prescription drug coverage (Part D), but it’s only available to beneficiaries who have a specific health condition, are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, and/or are a resident of a long-term care facility.

Special Needs plans are available to anyone who meets the specific eligibility requirements of the plan, lives in the plan’s service area, and has both Medicare Part A and Part B due to age or disability. Plan availability varies by state and service area.
