Health effects of using tobacco

Nearly half a million people die each year in the U.S. due to exposure to tobacco products, says the American Lung Association.1

Smoking/using cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, and smokeless tobacco:

  • Can cause or worsen diseases or conditions, such as asthma or cancer
  • Exposes anyone near you to secondhand smoke
  • Harms nearly every organ of the body
  • Is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S.

Health effects of vaping and e-cigarettes

E-cigarettes:2

  • Are electronic devices that heat a liquid and produce an aerosol, or mix of small particles in the air
  • Are known by many different names (e.g., e-cigs, e-hookahs, mods, vape pens, vapes, tank systems, and electronic nicotine delivery systems)
  • Come in many shapes and sizes
  • Often have a battery, heating elements, and a place to hold liquid
  • Often look like regular cigarettes, cigars, or pipes

According to the American Lung Association,3 all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes:

  • Are not safe to use
  • Can lead to the long-term use of tobacco products
  • Contain nicotine, which is highly addictive and negatively can affect brain development

Rewards have no cash value. The monetary amounts listed above are reward values, not actual dollars. For some rewards, your doctor has to tell us that you completed the healthy activity. Once we get this information from your doctor, you will see in the app the option to redeem the reward. For any reward you qualify to earn during the 2023 plan year, we must get confirmation from your doctor by no later than March 15, 2024.

Go365 for Humana Healthy Horizons is available to all enrollees who meet the requirements of the program. Rewards are not used to direct the enrollee to select a certain provider. Rewards may take 90 to 180 days or greater to receive. Rewards are non-transferrable to other Managed Care Plans or other programs. Enrollees will lose access to the Go365® App to the earned incentives and rewards if they voluntarily dis-enroll from the Humana Healthy Horizons or lose Medicaid eligibility for more than one-hundred eighty (180) days. At the end of plan year (December 31), enrollees with continuous enrollment will have 90 days to redeem their rewards. Rewards may be limited to once per year, per activity.

E-gift cards may not be used for tobacco, alcohol, firearms, lottery tickets, and other items not supporting a healthy lifestyle. Rewards are not used to direct an enrollee to a specific healthcare provider. See activity description for details.
