Families have different health insurance options for children in Florida. Learn about different Humana options to insure children through Medicaid.
Health insurance options for kids in Florida
Children in Florida who meet eligibility requirements can enroll in one of four Medicaid health insurance (Florida KidCare) programs. These programs are:
Children’s Medical Services Managed Care Plan (CMS Plan) Florida Healthy Kids , like coverage available through Humana Healthy Horizons® in FloridaMedicaid MediKids
Each of the above programs have basic eligibility requirements:
- CMS Plan covers children with special healthcare needs from birth to 19 years of age
- Florida Healthy Kids covers children ages 5 to 19
- Medicaid covers children from birth to 19 years of age
- MediKids covers children ages 1 to 4
Families also must meet income requirements to qualify for each of these programs. These income requirements are tied to the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and household size. After applying for Medicaid enrollment, an applicant will learn for which of the programs he or she qualifies.
Keep in mind that:
- A child likely will not qualify for each of the available programs
- Different agencies determine eligibility for each program
- Some (but not all) programs have premiums and copayments
